Monthly Favourites- April 2014

A blog post is long overdue because, without telling anyone, I decided to take some time off to focus on my finals. I also needed to figure out where I really want things to go. I haven’t quite figured it all out yet, but I have many ideas for this blog, including new concepts, and regular posts. I am in such a good place in my life right now. I am finishing off the school year happier than I have ever been, and I’m planning to get some goals together to ensure that I am in an ever better place in September. Because (real girl problem here), I do not have it all together. I love this blogging thing, but I started with no plan, no goal, no knowledge. I also need to work out more, and keep myself on a schedule that allows me to stay tidy and focused (clean room means clean mind). Today is the last day in April which means you get to see my reflection of products and events of this month (find last month’s here)!

April was a fun month. I feel accomplished looking back. My classes ended and exams began. I got closer to some of the most amazing women I have ever met in my life because we shared our stories with each other. On Monday, I finished off my entire first year of university with my final exam. It was also my dad’s birthday last weekend, so it great to get together and share some smiles and cake. I decided to make him the Blueberry Breakfast Quesadilla for lunch and he absolutely loved it! This month was also full of procrastination, so most of these things were procrastination tools. So here are my top five favourite things of the month.

1.       Favourite Internet Item:

Picture found here.

My. Goodness. Pinterest is my addiction right now. I am so obsessed. Also, there’s this one very popular pin that has 321 repins at this current moment and I cannot understand why so many people are liking it. I mean, I have 15 followers. I am clearly not a popular pinner, so why is this going crazy? I also want to add that boards should have sub-boards. I mean, I have an ever-growing food board, but I would like to sort my things into one larger category without having a million boards all over the place. Anyone else have this problem?

2.       Favourite TV Show:

You know how binge eating is considered an addiction? Well, binge watching should most definitely be placed in the same category. I watched two and half seasons of Friends in two days. I have spent many nights up until three in the morning watching Friends. I LOVE IT! I love the drama, and the goofiness, and this is exactly what I want in my future life. But maybe with a little less heartbreak. I’m currently on Season 10 (clearly, because this was right on my nightstand). It is my addiction. I was way late getting on this bandwagon, but I am so happy that I did.

3.       Favourite Food:

I tell kids that gum is considered food because you can still choke on it, and so gum will be classified as food. Here’s something about me: I actually hate chewing gum. I hate it when other people chew gum. But this month, I have been chewing gum so much. I think it’s a stress/anxiety thing. Plus, I heard that it stimulates brain cells or something. This is the type I’ve been chewing, but I’m not all that picky with my flavours.

4.       Favourite Accomplishment:

Once upon a month ago, I wrote a history essay. It kept me up for several nights in a row. My prof did not let us use word count the normal way. We had to MANUALLY COUNT the words. I also got an upper year friend to edit it for me and he tore it apart. I felt so awful when I handed it in. It was the worst thing I ever had to do in 15 years of school. So when I got it back at the beginning of the month, I was pleased to find out that I was among the handful of people that pulled off an A. I am so proud of myself, and I learned that asking for help is amazingly beneficial (something that always comes as a shock to me)

5.       Favourite Event:

I AM DONE FIRST YEAR OF UNIVERSITY! No picture for this one, but Happy is basically my feeling walking out of my last exam. It was an amazing year. I met the most amazing people, got close to old friends, and I accomplished so much! I cannot wait for next year!

I honestly have no idea what to look forward to in May. I have one soph weekend event, but other than that, I have no idea what my plans are. I am going to sit down tomorrow and make a plan though. But summer is here (although spring weather hasn’t even hit in Canada) and the possibilities are endless!

Is fall not the best reading season? I’m so glad I’ve had a few opportunities to sit on the front porch, wrapped in a fuzzy blanket with a hot drink and my book. Right now, it’s raining outside and all I want to do is cozy up and get back to my book. I’ve read some great non-fiction in the past six weeks. I’m learning so much about how people relate to the world around them. That is so important to me. Check them out! The Reason I Jump: The Inner Voice of a Thirteen-Year-Old Boy with Autism – Naoki Higashida – 4 Stars         This is a very short book that I think everyone should read – particularly those who work with children. Although knowledge has come a long way, there is still so much more to be learned about autism. This book is a series of question that Naoki Higashida answers from his point of view. Interspersed is also a handful of short stories from Higashida’s point of view.         It’s an incredible book. It’s something that really allows readers to understand ho

James Bond and Indiana Jones are the best. I

Monthly Favourites- February 2016

I don’t know about you, but it feels like February has flown by! I can’t say it’s been a busy month; it’s more like a month of sinking back into routine. Last month, I was so ready to get back to school. It’s been great so far. I’m loving my classes, and I’m doing well with keeping on top of readings. I went to watch The Superbowl with friends (we didn’t make it to halftime), took control of my own body, and I’ve made myself a solid group of friends. I’m really happy. Here’s what got me through the month: 1.        NetGalley     I’m sure you can tell based on the sheer amount of book reviews I’ve been posting, but I have been reading quite a lot. This is all thanks to NetGalley. I have been a member of the site for over a year, but I never really got into it until now. At home, I have an extensive bookshelf, but I couldn’t bring that to the UK with me. I turned to NetGalley, and I have been rewarded. As a member, I request book titles and get a free e-book. In exchange, I have
